THE EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE

The atmosphere is the great layer of air that surrounds the Earth. It has several layers:

1) TROPOSPHERE: it is 15 kilometres high. It is formed by oxygen, nitrogen and other gases.
2) STRATOSPHER: it contains the ozone layer. Ozone absorbs dangerous radiation from the Sun.
3) OUTER LAYERS: there three outer layers:

                                    - Mesosphere
                                    - Termosphere
                                    - Exosphere

USES OF MATERIALS

We can use materials for:

1) For building use.

2) For decoration use.

3) For industrial use.

4) As an energy source.

EXTRACTING MINERALS FORM THE EARTH'S CRUST

A deposit is an area where there are rocks and minerals.

There are three types of extracting minerals:

1) OPEN MINES: minerals are taken by cutting the mountains.

2) UNDERGROUND MINES: minerals are under the ground.

3) DRILLING: humans make holes in the ground to take liquids o gases.

THE LITHOSPHERE

The lithosphere is the solid, outer part of the Earth.

It can be divided into Oceanic crust and Continental crust.

1) Oceanic crust is the solid part covered by the water of the oceans. There are five oceans:

    - Atlantic.
    - Pacific.
    - Indian.
    - Artic.
    - Southern.

2) Continental crust: it is the soild part that forms the continents. There are five continents:

     - Europe.
     - Asia.
     - Africa.
     - America.
     - Oceania.

SOCIAL SCIENCE

THE LITHOSPHERE

There are three layers in the Earth:

1) The core: it is the inner layer. It is made up of lava and magma.
2) The mantle:it is the middle layer. It is made up of magma and rocks.
3) The crust:it is the surface of the Earth. It is made up of rocks and soil.

CHANGES IN ECOSYSTEMS

There are different types of changes in ecosystems

- Changes caused by natural causes: changes in the weather, floods, forest fires, volcanic eruption...

- Changes caused by human activities: construction of buildings, planting...

                             FLOOD

                          FOREST FIRE

            VOLCANIC  ERUPTION

THE WEATHER:  FOUR  SEASONS
                               OF THE YEAR.

          HUMAN  BUILDINGS

FOOD CHAIN

FOOD CHAIN IN ECOSYSTEMS

The food chain consists of three groups:

1) PRODUCERS
2) CONSUMERS
3) DECOMPOSERS

PRODUCERS

They make their own food (Plants and algae).

CONSUMERS

There are three types of consumers:

1) HERBIVORES:  they only eat plants.
2) CARNIVORES: they only eat meat.
3) OMNIVORES: they eat plants and meat.

DECOMPOSERS

They decompose dead organisms. Some examples are fungi and bacteria.
